How to choose your wedding videographer?

Videography has become very sought after but there many to choose from. We have some tips to help you make a sound choice.

"We film in a 'cinematic' style, where storytelling, composition and overall look are of utmost importance. Films are shorter, using audio snippets from the day to tell your story, creating a film-like keepsake."

Style

Watch a videographer's 'highlights' online. Ask to see a full film too so you know what the end product will be.

We film in a 'cinematic' style, where storytelling, composition and overall look are of utmost importance. Films are shorter, using audio snippets from the day to tell your story, creating a film-like keepsake.

Traditional films are longer (up to 2 hours). The aim is to provide a record of the day, so not as much emphasis is placed on the look.

Edit

After the wedding our work really begins! Short-form edits are montage based and don’t adhere to the chronology of the day, instead they maximise the emotion. Films might start with audio of the Groom's speech over footage of the couple, then continue with bridal preparation. These films do not include the ceremony and speeches in their entirety so check if you'll receive these as special features.

Long-form edits include the full ceremony and speeches and tell the story in a chronological, more traditional fashion.

Sound

Director George Lucas said “sound is 50% of the film”. Ask how your videographer records sound. We use different methods: a discreet lapel microphone on the groom during the ceremony and a feed from the soundboard during speeches.

Format

Check how many copies you'll receive and on what format. We send a digital copy on USB to ensure the film is future proof for years to come.

Ask!

There are no retakes on the big day so it’s important you're happy with your choice. After watching a videographer's work, you're likely to have questions. Have they worked at your venue before? How many videographers will film and for how long?

If you are struggling to find a videographer, ask your venue or photographer, or Google your venue and 'wedding film' to find examples. There will be a videographer  who will capture your day in a way you'll want to watch again and again.
